Yes Michael Jackson was the punchline of about a quarter-million Tonight Show jokes. But Michael Jackson  influenced generations of musicians, dancers and entertainers, and the man was so much more than what the tabloids made him out to be.

One of entertainment’s greatest icons, he was incredibly gifted, and like most gifted individuals he was an equally troubled genius who kept us captivated at his most dazzling, and at his most appalling moments.

The New York Times once described him as one of the six most famous people on the planet. I’d like to up the ante:  he was the most famous person on the planet. He influenced artists ranging from Justin Timberlake to Madonna and zillion othes, and genres from rock to pop to R&B to even rap. No other artist has been as unifying.

The Power of Music Currency no flags,no borders,no race ,Michael Jackson owned that!

THE WIZ was definitely not a good film for me, but I did enjoy it. I think my favorite album of his was dangerous, though my favorite song of his is ‘Smooth Criminal’. My second favorite is ‘Will You Be There’ from the Free Willy soundtrack. I’ve always loved Michael Jackson. Even his last album, which a lot of people felt was lacking, I enjoyed.

I think what a lot of people have problems with is that his music started to be too much about his personal life when his 80s and early 90s songs were all about having fun and loving life. I guess I never really minded that since I still think he’s talented and even though it sucks that a lot of people will remember him for his bizarre behavior I still respect the guy for his music. I’m not gonna judge him for things that I know nothing about. I doubt that he even did a lot of the REALLY crazy stuff people were saying. Like, I doubt that he was a child molester and I doubt that he bought the bones of John Merrick and kept them in his basement. I don’t know, the 90s were pretty strange. Damn. Anyway yeah, I’ll always love Michael Jackson and his music. He was a terrific human being and it sucks that he had to leave us so soon.

So in years to come I look forward to the Michael Jackson tribute Artists from China,Africa,Europe,Iran,Lebanon….this samoan best get in shape and enroll in the moonwalk mastery class should take me 300 lifetimes!

R.I.P Michael Jackson.
